Could someone please clarify the following matter? If a foreigner stopped by the police and asked to for his/her passport is it legal to present a notarized copy of a passport or would this constitute non-compliance with the law of the RK?

the answer will be: yes, it is enough to show to the policeman only this copy from your passport. At moment i cannot prove this with the law or other legal act because i haven't now yuridical database near by me but i know this exactly because my husband is a foreigner too and this we checked before

A foreigner can be stopped and taken to the police station even if he has an original passport. For many reasons. It's not allowed for foreigners to have only a notarized copy.

In accordance with legislation foreigner must have an original passport with visa. If not, the policeman has the right to detain on three hours. A notarized copy of passport is not used.

И наших могут на 3 часа без документа, удостоверяющего личность задержать, как и иностранцев.

В принципе it is not so necessary to keep passport for all the time, our police's very loyal to foreigners, especially europeans and americans.

So if your visa or permission are valid, there must be no any trouble, even if you don't keep your passport "under the hood"
